After supposed patent images of the next-generation Montero Sport were leaked, Mitsubishi has officially revealed a teaser image of the 2016 Montero Sport ahead of its scheduled world debut on August 1, 2015.

Set to be fitted with the company’s new grill design called ‘Dynamic Shield’, the teaser image provided does resemble the overall shape of the leaked patents. In addition, Mitsubishi seemed to have made the 2016 Montero Sport appear more upscale than the outgoing generation.

Compared to the 2015 Mitsubishi L200/Strada that it will be based on, the next-gen Montero Sport’s front fascia will greatly differ from the pickup as it features a unique set of headlights with integrated daytime running lights.

Over to the side, it has pronounced character lines that can be seen on the rear and front quarter panels, with the latter’s lines incorporated on the nameplate’s hood and front bumper.

Mitsubishi did not state the engines that will power the 2016 Montero Sport though it is expected that it will be using the engines available on the 2015 Mitsubishi L200/Strada. The PH-spec 2016 Montero Sport will likely get the carried over 2.5-liter turbo diesels, one with 136 PS with 324 Nm of torque and the other one cranking out 178 PS with 400 Nm of torque.

It will be making its official debut at the 2015 Bangkok International Grand Motor Sale on August 1, 2015.
