After giving a glimpse of the next-generation MPV a few days ago, Toyota has officially revealed the 2016 Innova in Indonesia. Now bearing Toyota's current design theme, the 2016 Innova also carries new cabin amenities along with a new platform and powertrain.
From the outside, the second-generation Innova ditches conservative styling for a more sophisticated look. It has new wraparound headlights that feature HID lighting, revised grill design reminiscent on the 2015 Avanza and circular foglamps with integrated turn indicators.
The side profile has a distinct character line that can be seen on the middle section of the MPV along with a pinched third-row window. Rounding it all off is a set of new alloy wheels that are available in 16- or 17-inches, depending on the variant.
Towards the back, new combination taillights and a reworked tailgate adorn the rear section of the MPV. Completing the new look of the 2016 Innova is a new roof-mounted spoiler that also carries a stop lamp.
Aboard the 2016 Innova, it now has a more upscale finish along with new technologies. The dashboard has a sweeping design while the dual gauge cluster is now illuminated. For V and Q variants, there will also be a TFT multi-information display sitting in the middle of the gauges and automatic climate control.
Reserved for the Q variant however is an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system that can support HDMI viewing. Also present in the top-of-the-line model are three powertrain button modes, Eco, Normal and Power. These functions can be found below the climate controls.
In terms of engine choices, all variants (G,V,Q) can be specified with either diesel- or gasoline-power.
First up is the 2.4-liter 2GD-FTV turbo diesel that debuted in the all-new Hilux. It produces 149 PS at 3,400 rpm along with 359 Nm of torque that is readily available from 1,200 – 2,600 rpm. Over to gasoline is the carried over 2.0-liter 1TR-FE inline-four that now benefits from Dual VVT-i. It now delivers 139 PS (3 PS more) at 5,600 rpm with a torque rating of 183 Nm (1 Nm more) at 4,000 rpm.
Both engines can be connected to a 5-speed manual or new 6-speed automatic gearbox with manumatic function.
An array of safety tech is now available on the 2016 Innova. These include: anti-lock brakes with electronic brakeforce distribution, dual front and knee airbags, and ISOFIX child seat anchors on all models. The top of the range Q Diesel model however gets extra equipment like side and curtain airbags, Hill start assist and stability control.
