Volkswagen's 'hot hatch' is now available as a standard model after Volkswagen Philippines launched the Comfortline and Highline models of the hatchback at their Bonifacio Global City dealership. Standing alongside the GTI model which was launched in 2015, the new Golf models aim to take a bigger cut of the premium hatchback market with its TSI engine, array of standard amenities and powertrain technology.
Differentiating it from the more powerful GTI is a simpler body kit and grill, along with a unique set of alloy wheels. The seventh-generation Golf also features a tailgate-mounted spoiler and slightly tweaked taillights and headlights.
Exclusive only to the Highline variant are automatic Bi-Xenon headlights. It benefits from a headlamp washer, headlight range adjuster and cornering lights. Complementing it are LED daytime running lights (DRLs).
Inside, the range-topping Highline Golf gets Vienna leather seats, dual-zone Climatronic auto climate control with rear vents and a 5.8-inch Composition Media infotainment system. The Comfortline comes with fabric seats, manual climate control and a basic infotainment system.
Under the hood, both the Comfortline and Highline models are driven by a 1.4-liter TSI inline-four. It generates 150 PS at 5,000 rpm along with 250 Nm of torque at 1,500 rpm. The engine is then mated to a 7-speed DSG dual clutch transmission that drives the front wheels.
Other features present on the 2016 Golf include electronic stabilization program (ESP), seven airbags, Engine Drag Torque Control (MRS), electronic differential lock (EDL) and a regenerative braking system.
Available colors for Volkswagen Philippines' latest offering include: Pure White, Sunset Red Metallic, Limestone Gray and Deep Black Pearl. Pacific Blue is exclusively available for the Comfortline only.
