All 100 units of Honda Civic Type R spoken for in the Philippines

If you've just decided that you're in the market for a new Honda Civic Type R, you'll have to wait quite a bit.

According to Honda Cars Philippines, Inc. president and general manager Noriyuki Takakura, all 100 units of the Civic Type R that are slated to be released in the remaining months of 2017 have now been spoken for.

Not only that, HCPI's Takakura said that the demand was so high that it only took less than 48 hours for Honda dealers nationwide to get all 100 units reserved. The dealers were given the green light to accept reservations starting July 11.

This is the first time that HCPI has offered the Civic Type R. Takakura said that the decision to bring in the Type R came after the company decided to forego Formula One-related activities in the Philippines given the lack of domestic interest.

The 2017 Civic Type R is manufactured by their plant at Swindon in the UK and not in Japan. The Type R retains its front wheel drive layout, along with a 2.0-liter VTEC Turbo engine and a 6-speed manual. New features for this generation include a drive mode selector that alters throttle response as well as suspension stiffness for handling.

The announcement of HCPI that they will be releasing the Civic Type R was met with acclaim from car enthusiasts, though many were critical of the pricing of the CTR at PhP 2,980,000.

HCPI's chief executive stated that 2018's allocation is still unclear given the significant global demand for the Civic Type R and the capacity of their UK plant. The company also has not mentioned any potential changes in pricing given the uncertainty surrounding the plans for tax reform, particularly automotive excise taxes.
