With the Isuzu D-Max getting a facelift late last year, it's now the Mu-X's turn for a refresh. For this minor model change, the Mu-X gets a host of exterior upgrades, as well as a few tweaks to the interior.
The 2017 Mu-X receives a new front bumper with new lower accents. More chrome detailing can also be seen by the foglight housings. The grill is also new for 2017, getting more creases near the headlights. Speaking of headlights, the units have been upgraded to integrate daytime running lights, as well as a light signature.
On to its side, it is largely a carryover from the current model. More changes can be seen at the rear. The bumper has been redesigned with more cladding at the lower half. Also, the tail light element has been rearranged and now boasts an LED strip. Capping off the changes to the Mu-X are 18-inch alloy wheels, an upgrade from the current 17-inch wheels.
Inside, the design has been lifted from the current Mu-X but now features more soft-touch materials to boost cabin ambiance. The 2017 Mu-X can also be specified with faux wood trim and the seats have been redesigned as well. In Thailand, the Mu-X is also available with an eight-inch iConnect smartphone-capable infotainment system. Like the D-Max, the Mu-X gets a new instrument cluster.
Thai-spec Isuzu Mu-X models are available in two engine specifications. First is the 1.9-liter Blue Power turbodiesel engine. The second is a 3.0-liter turbodiesel engine carried over from the present Mu-X. The 1.9-liter mill produces 150 PS at 3,600 rpm and 350 Nm of torque while the 3.0-liter diesel puts out 177 PS and 380 Nm of torque. In the Philippines, the 3.0-liter engine in the current model produces 163 PS but torque remains at 380 Nm.
Transmissions are also new for 2017 and now shift via a six-speed automatic or a six-speed manual with Genius Sport Shift. It remains to be seen if the Philippine-spec models will come with the new transmissions.
