Kia Philippines officially launches all-new Rio Hatchback
It was first revealed in Paris and now, it's here. Columbian AutoCar Corporation, the official distributor of Kia cars in the Philippines, recently launched the next-gen Rio at Capital Commons, Pasig City. Sleeker and slightly longer than the third-generation hatchback, the 2017 Rio gets a design makeover both inside and out while retaining the 1.4-liter Kappa engine.
Smooth curves and sharp lines dominate the exterior of the fourth-generation Rio. New projector headlights with daytime running lights give the 2017 Rio a sharper look while the tiger-nose grill gets a slight redesign and is finished in gloss black. Around the back, LED taillights and a tailgate-mounted spoiler give the hatchback a sophisticated finish. 17-inch alloy wheels will come as standard on high-end versions. Meanwhile, smaller 15-inch alloys will be fitted on entry-level models of the Rio.
Dimensions also grew for the fourth-generation Rio. It is now 5mm wider and 15mm longer than its predecessor. This makes the next-gen Rio Hatchback 4,065mm long and 1,725mm wide. Height is also up by 5mm, now at 1,460mm.
A total of nine colors will be available for the 2017 Rio which includes: Aurora Black Pearl, Clear White, Deep Sienna Brown, Most Yellow, Platinum Graphite, Signal Red, Silky Silver, Smoke Blue and Urban Green.
Inside, all seats are upholstered in high-quality black fabric while piano black trim lifts cabin ambiance. The rear seats can be folded 60:40 which allows for extra cargo space on long journeys. In-car entertainment is provided by a 4.3-inch touchscreen audio system which comes with AM/FM radio, CD, Bluetooth, USB and Aux. Also, depending on the variant, the 2017 Rio can be specified with either manual air conditioning or automatic climate control. Luggage capacity, on the other hand is at 325 liters with the rear seats up.
Under the hood, the 2017 Rio is powered by a 1.4-liter Kappa engine that can be mated to a 4-speed automatic transmission or 6-speed manual. Carried-over from the previous model, the engine produces 100 PS at 6000 rpm along with 133 Nm of torque at 4000 rpm.
Other features and amenities that will be available in the 2017 Rio Hatchback include smart key with push-button start, steering wheel-mounted audio controls, cruise control, rear parking assist, anti-lock brakes, dual SRS airbags and charging outlets for both front and rear passengers.
The 2017 Kia Rio will be available for purchasing beginning in June.
