Mercedes-AMG continues its line of high-performance SUVs with the unveiling of the GLC 63 and GLC 63 Coupe. According to Tobias Moers, CEO of Mercedes-AMG GMBH, the car boasts a “technical closeness” with their flagship sports grand tourer, the AMG GT.

Mercedes-Benz unleashes AMG power for the GLC-Class

At the heart of the GLC 63 and GLC 63 coupe is a 4.0-liter, bi-turbo V8 engine. The handbuilt powertrain produces 476 PS and 650 Nm of torque. Also available is an uprated version of the said V8 engine, found in the GLC 63 S models. Power is boosted to 510 PS and 700 Nm of torque. Both models shift via a nine-speed automatic transmission and lay power down through 4Matic, Mercedes-Benz's all-wheel drive system. Mercedes-AMG claims the high-performance SUV can do 0 to 100 km/h in 4 seconds. Opt for the S package and it can do the same task at 3.8 seconds. Both are electronically limited to 250 km/h.

Mercedes-AMG also made a bespoke suspension arrangement for the GLC 63. The front axle features a four-link design with special steering knuckles, optimised elastokinematics and radial brake connections. At the rear is a multi-link set up with a wider track and its wheel bearings moved outwards. It then rides on a new three-chamber air suspension with "Comfort", "Sport" and "Sport Plus" modes. Also standard is a limited slip differential.

Moving to its exterior, it gets blistered fenders to accommodate the car's wider stance. The front bumper is also unique to this particular model line. It gets larger air intakes for added cooling. Integrated diffusers are also found at the rear bumper. As for its grill, Mercedes-AMG calls it the “Panamerica”, which has the similar treatment as the AMG GT.

The GLC 63 Coupe also features a carbon fiber ducktail spoiler on its tailgate. Both GLC 63 and GLC 63 Coupe ride on  235/55 R 19 tires at the front and 255/50 R 19 at the rear. Larger wheel combinations are also available.

Inside the Mercedes-AMG GLC 63

Inside, the GLC 63 and GLC 63 Coupe gets sports seats trimmed in ARTICO leather. It is then combined with DINAMICA microfiber. Meanwhile, its instrument panel is also trimmed in black ARTICO leather with contrasting top stitching. The high-grade look is underlined by aluminium trim. Moving to the S variants, it adds a performance steering wheel in black nappa leather / DINAMICA microfibre, AMG badges in the front head restraints in combination with leather appointments and AMG instrument cluster with red highlights.
