Mercedes-Benz has just launched the Maybach S600 Guard in India and although full details were not made available for security purposes, the automaker did reveal that the vehicle’s exterior can withstand steel core bullets fired continuously from an assault rifle, a 15kg TNT blast as close as two meters and it comes with a self-healing tank plus run-flat Michelin tires.

The Maybach S600 Guard is the world's first passenger vehicle that gets a VR10 rating from the Ballistics Authority in Ulm, Germany.

"With the introduction of the Mercedes-Maybach S 600 Guard we have now created an unmatched offering in the segment and strongly reiterated our technological leadership in the field of special protection vehicles," said Mercedes-Benz India CEO Roland Folger.

The 2017 Maybach S600 Guard, aside from being one of the most luxurious models in the world also has the highest levels of ballistic and blast protection available for a non-military vehicle.

"It is hence not surprising that most of the global heads of state, diplomats, business tycoons and celebrities prefer a Guard vehicle," Folger added.

It comes with a fully armored under body, polycarbonate window coating and an enhanced air suspension. Optional features include:

  • Push-button ventilation system to flush out toxic gases
  • Panic alarm system
  • Automatic fire extinguisher
  • Hydraulic power for heavy side windows
  • Opaque roller blinds in the rear

A redesigned layout moves the rear passenger seating much further back compared to a regular S600 for added safety.

The 6.0L twin-turbo V12 engine will likely be carried over from the standard version. It produces 530 PS, 870 Nm of torque and is mated to a 7G-TRONIC 7-speed dual clutch transmission.
