All-new Subaru Impreza packs more safety kit, new platform
Japan's newly crowned Car of the Year has just made its regional debut. Motor Image, the official distributor for Subaru vehicles in the ASEAN region has just revealed the fifth-generation Subaru Impreza in Singapore. First making its public debut during the 2016 New York Auto Show, the all-new Impreza brings home the second Car of the Year title for Subaru, the first being the Legacy back in 2003.
For this generation of Impreza, it now rides on a new architecture called Global Program which is set to underpin Subaru models in the near future. Subaru adds that this platform promises to deliver “Enjoyment and Peace of Mind”, as well as a more dynamic driving experience to all drivers and greater comfort for passengers. This platform is also slated to be the basis of future hybrids from the automaker.
The all-new Impreza is bigger than the car it will be replacing, now measuring 4,685 mm long, 1,778 mm wide, 1,455 mm tall and sits on a 2,670 mm wheelbase. At the front, it features the brand's signature hexagonal grill with sharper, more aggressive headlights compared to its predecessor. Subaru has also emphasized the fender flares, giving it a wider stance. At the rear, it boasts 'reverse L' tail lights while the trunk upwards for a more athletic stance.
Inside, the 2017 Impreza is equipped with an 8-inch touchscreen that serves as the infotainment system. With the larger dimensions, Subaru says the interior is now more spacious with more leg, hip, head and shoulder room.
In Singapore, Subaru Impreza models will be available in two body styles, as well as two engine choices. Singapore models will come in either five-door hatch or four-door sedan along with 1.6 liter and 2.0 liter flat-four engines. The 1.6 liter engine puts out 114 PS while the 2.0 liter engine produces 153 PS and both models shift via the Lineartronic continuously variable transmission (CVT). It also comes with Subaru Rear/Side Vehicle Detection, Steering Responsive Headlights and the signature Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system.
Motor Image Pilipinas will be officially launching the all-new Subaru Impreza at the Manila International Auto Show on March 30.
