BMW is just about ready to unveil the 2018 X2. But before its global reveal next month, the German automaker has released a preview for their smallest crossover coupe. For the X2 teaser, BMW made a bold move by driving the car out in public, albeit wearing a different kind of camouflage.

Sporting what BMW calls Urban Camouflage, we see more of the X2's styling details and largely confirms the patent drawings of the car. Just like in the previous report, we see upswept headlights featuring the signature 'Angel Eyes' and a unique application of the kidney grill. The lower part of the bumper also has the same look of the patent image with a wide air intake opening and fog lights mounted at the center of the front fascia.

2018 BMW X2 previewed ahead of Frankfurt debut

On to its side and a closer look reveals a character line that runs through the door handles while the wrap covers up the extra body cladding. Since this is essentially the all-new X2 in a wrap, it is pretty much confirmed that the tailgate design comes with a sizable integrated spoiler. As for its tail lights, it is the same ones found in the patent drawing. All in all, it is a toned-down version of the X2 Concept which was shown during the 2016 Paris Motor Show.

As it is based on the BMW X1, the X2 rides on the front-wheel drive UKL architecture which is also used on Mini cars and crossovers. xDrive all-wheel drive will be an option and expect a wide range of gas and diesel engines. Assuming the X2 carries over the engine lineup of the X1, the gas-powered range is likely to start with the three-cylinder 1.5-liter turbo, all the way to the 2.0-liter, turbo inline-four. As for the diesel options, the 2.0-liter range may be offered with varying power outputs, depending on the variant selected.
