Chevrolet Trax gets tech upgrade, nip and tuck in mid-cylce update
After being previewed by the bow-tie brand during the 2017 Manila International Auto Show, Chevrolet Philippines officially launched the refreshed Trax for the 2018 model year. Bearing a sleeker exterior design along with upgraded tech, the 2018 Trax aims to get a foothold once more of the highly competitive B-segment crossover.
The wedge-shaped front fascia is no more as the updated Trax now comes with slimmer headlights and a one-piece upper grill. High-end variants of the Trax will come with LED daytime running lights (DRLs) while entry-level versions will have bulb type DRLs. Also given a mild update are the foglights and foglight bezels.
The LT version of the 2018 Trax come with 18-inch aluminum alloy wheels wrapped in 215/55 tires. Meawnhile, the LS variant comes with smaller 16-inch aluminum alloys and 205/70 rubber. Around the back, the stacked taillights and rear bumper have been given a mild refresh as well while the tailgate now comes with a chrome strip. Also, both the LT and LS variants have power tailgate function.
Inside, the seats can come with either lealtherette or cloth upholstery, depending on the model chosen. A leather three-spoke steering will come as standard on the LT while the LS will be made from urethane. Exclusive only to the LT is also the four-way adjustable driver's seat that comes with a lumbar switch.
Like the refreshed Trailblazer and Colorado, the 2018 Trax can now also come with the new MyLink infotainment system. With it, Chevrolet claimed the Trax now has better smartphone integration and easier access to messages and music. Other in-car entertainment features available include AM/FM radio, Bluetooth and USB connectivity and CD.
Driving the 2018 Chevrolet Trax is the 1.4-liter DOHC EcoTec inline-four turbo that is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. It generates 140 PS at 4900 – 6000 rpm along with 200 Nm of torque that is available between 1850 – 4900 rpm.
Standard safety features that are available in the Trax lineup are: anti-lock brakes (ABS) with electronic brakeforce distributon (EBD), cornering brake control (CBC), traction control (TC), roll over mitigation (ROM), hill-start assist (HSA), engine drag control (EDC) and reverse sensors.
Exclusive features only available to the range-topping Trax LT are the following: reverse camera, hill-descent control (HDC), electronic cruise control (ECC), engine start/stop button, keyless entry, heated power folding side mirrors and automatic headlights.
