2018 Dodge Durango gets SRT power with Hemi V8

Dodge unveils the Durango SRT ahead of 2017 Chicago Auto Show

Since the reveal of the Dodge Durango Shaker concept back in SEMA 2016, it was only a matter of time before Dodge released a high-performance version of their large crossover. Now, the production model has just been released ahead of the 2017 Chicago Auto Show.

The Dodge Durango SRT uses the same power plant as the other Dodge SRT powered cars, a 6.4-liter Hemi V8 that produces 475 PS and 637 newton-meter of torque. Mated to an 8-speed automatic along with an all wheel drive system, this enables the Durango SRT to sprint from 0 – 97 km/h in 4.4 seconds and achieve a quarter mile time of 12.9 seconds. It breathes through functional air intakes found on the front fascia including a cold-air inlet above the fog light plus a hood scoop.

Durango SRT models ride on adaptive suspension and 20-inch alloy wheels. The suspension has also been retuned to handle the power. It gets bigger brakes too, measuring 380mm at the front and 350mm at the rear. The Durango SRT's all-wheel drive system comes with five modes. These are Street, Sport, Track, Winter and off-road. Each setting offers various power distribution, depending on the mode selected.

Being a large crossover says it can still tow heavy loads despite the performance intentions. Up from the standard 3400kg, the SRT can pull 3900kg and has already been certified.

A re-designed SRT application is built into the touchscreen system. It provides drivers with important information regarding vehicle data. Drivers also get to choose driving modes and set up other options.

Inside, all three rows use bucket seats to secure the driver and passengers. It is mated to a hand stitched dashboard, suede wrapped pillars and headliners, and carbon fiber trim. The SRT badge on the steering wheel also glows faintly at night, dubbed by Dodge as the “lit DAB” badge.

There has been no official word yet regarding the price of the Durango SRT.
