The 2018 Ford Mustang gets a new retro-inspired styling package. Only available in EcoBoost trim, the Pony Package kit gives the refreshed Mustang the classic 'pony in the corral' front grill along with several other extras.
First appearing in gen-1 Mustangs of the 1960s, the chrome corral was present in both concept and production designs. It became a signature look for the Mustang that Ford actually used it in a special edition anniversary model back in 2015.
Aside from the prominent pony up front, the EcoBoost Mustang also gets 19-inch polished aluminum wheels, side stripes and bright beltline, window trim for fastback models and a tri-bar pony badge on the trunk lid.
The interior was also given a subtle upgrade via new premium carpeted floor mats that come with an Ebony embroidered pony logo. Beyond that, the 2018 Mustang will still come with the new SYNC 3 infotainment system and the 12-inch digital instrument panel.
As stated earlier, the Pony Package will only be available for 2018 models carrying the 2.3-liter EcoBoost inline-four. Ford has yet to release the updated output ratings of the EcoBoost engine but they did mention that the engine now has more torque for better acceleration. Current EcoBoost Mustangs produce 314 PS and 434 Nm of torque.
Beside the engine, a reworked six-speed manual and a new ten-speed automatic will be available for the 2018 Mustang.
The refreshed Ford Mustang will arrive in US dealerships come October of this year.
