2018 Indonesia International Motor Show opened by President Joko Widodo


18th IIMS plays host to global debuts, launch of local models

On April 19, the 18th Indonesia International Motor Show (IIMS) officially opened its doors, playing host to multiple domestic launches as well as the global debut of some models. Held at the Jakarta International Expo in Kemayoran, Central Jakarta, there was a mix of automotive brands – both foreign and local – which displayed their latest offerings to the public.

Officially opening the 2018 IIMS was Indonesian President Joko Widodo. Compared to previous IIMS, this has only been the second time the President officially opened the international motor show. During the opening day, President Widodo also toured around to see what the multiple automobile and motorcycle manufacturers had to offer. 

Making their global debuts, Suzuki introduced the second generation Ertiga MPV during the show's opening day. Based on the current-gen Suzuki Swift, the Ertiga also receives a styling upgrade. With its debut in Indonesia, the brand's new 7-seater vehicle could soon be making it regional debuts elsewhere in other South East Asian countries. Meanwhile, Honda revealed the Small RS concept. Though it appears to be based on a Brio, it does sport the Mobilio RS' front fascia as well as other aggressive looking bits. It is possible that the sporty hatchback could preview the next-generation Brio.  

Along with the global debuts, automakers also displayed their latest model line up for Indonesia. Furthermore, manufacturers also had special edition variants of vehicles launched during the IIMS. 

Apart from automobiles, multiple motorcycle manufacturers, both local and interntaional, also held their launches at the event. 

As with most motor shows, showgoers will also be able to test drive vehicles from various manufacturers. They will also be able to purchase vehicles and motorcycles during the event itself.  

Along with the display of automobiles and motorcyle manufacturers, IIMS organizers also had a 'Center Piece of Carnival' event. The event will be hold a lot of features, such as car exhibitions, to entertain family-goers. To make it more entertaining, the 'Center Piece of Carni' will have a 60's theme.

The 2018 Indonesia International Motor Show runs from April 19 to 29, 2018.
