A week has passed since Lexus previewed the next-generation ES but now, they have pulled the covers on the seventh-generation model. While they won't be revealing specs just yet, they have fully revealed the car; at least the front end of it. Now on its seventh-generation, the 2018 ES presents an evolutionary model change over the current model. According to Lexus, full specifications will be shown next week, April 25, 2018, at the Beijing Motor Show.
Lexus is sticking fiercely to their L-Finesse design and the all-new ES draws some styling elements from the brand's flagship, the LS. At the same time, there are also some familiar design cues similar to that in the present ES. A bolder, wider spindle grill takes center stage at the front and features a 'waterfall' design for its slats. Headlights on the other hand are an edgier, more angular take of the soon to be outgoing model with its L-shaped daytime running lights and slim, upswept design.
The sides, meanwhile, see a sweeping roofline that highlight the ES' sleek profile. A subtle character line defines the flanks of the big sedan and gives it a broad shouldered look. Adding a little more detail to the sides are creases by the bottom of the rear doors and C-shaped rear windows.
As for the rear, Lexus did not show it off in full detail. Based on the video however, the next-gen ES comes with slim LED tail lights extend all the way to the quarter panel. It also looks like it will come with an extended trunk lip spoiler as well. Interior photos have yet to be revealed.
Given that the current-generation Lexus ES is based on the Avalon, it is possible that the seventh-generation model rides on Toyota's new modular platform. Dubbed TNGA, it underpins a wide variety of current and upcoming Toyota products which includes the recently introduced all-new Avalon. If it does indeed share its chassis with the Avalon, it is likely that the ES will share the same engines as the full-sized Toyota. That means the ES could get a 3.5-liter V6 alongside a 2.5-liter, four-cylinder hybrid.
