Nearly a month ago, Lotus revealed the fire-breating Evora GT430. Billed as the fastest production Lotus to date, it comes with an uprated powertrain and chassis along with a radical looking aerokit. With only 60 examples to be made, it's a limited model that may only cater to a select few.
To further introduce the GT430 to a wider audience, Lotus recently launched a new version of the Evora called the GT430 Sport. It carries the same line of upgrades but does not come with the racing-inspired exterior add-ons like the huge rear wing and eye-catching front splitter.
The loss of the aerokit, however, meant that the GT430 Sport is now the fastest production Lotus (superceeding the standard Evora GT430). It now only weighs in at 1,248 kg (-10kg) which brings the sports car's power-to-weight ratio to 345 PS per tonne.
Power is still provided by the familiar 3.5-liter supercharged V6 that benefits from a new air-to-liquid gearbox cooler and a titanium exhaust. It cranks out 436 PS at 7000 rpm and 440 Nm (450 Nm with the automatic) of torque at 4500 rpm. Available transmissions include a six-speed manual and a six-speed automatic. 0 – 97 km/h is achieved in 3.7 seconds with the manual while the automatic version can do it faster in 3.6 seconds. The lighter curb weight also meant it has a higher top speed of 315 km/h, 10 km/h more than the standard Evora GT430.
Apart from the uprated engine, the GT430 Sport also benefits from a Torsen-type limited-slip differential for better cornering speeds. In addition, the chassis of the GT430 Sport has Ohlins TTX two-way adjustable dampers and ventilated disc brakes with AP Racing four-piston calipers on all corners.
Images of the GT430 Sport's interior were not provided but Lotus did say it gets Sparco racing seats upholstered in a mix of leather and Alcantara. The steering wheel, dashboard, door cards, center console and transmission tunnel also get the same mix of trim material. Optional extras available in the new GT430 Sport include touchscreen infotainment with Bluetooth, satellite navigation and even iPhone connectivity.
“The Evora GT430 already has cemented its place as a true collector’s car, but we know that many of our customers want the option of choosing a less aggressive version, with the same power, but without some of more arresting design and aero elements. With the Evora GT430 Sport, we have responded to this demand to add to the whole range of thoroughbred Lotus cars that are great on the track as well as supremely capable on the road,” said Jean-Marc Gales, CEO of Lotus.
