New E-Class Coupe features brand's new design language
Mercedes-Benz introduced the 2018 E-Class Coupe to the brand's E-Class family following the unveil of the E-Class sedan and wagon.
Technically based on the sedan, the new E-Class Coupe now features the brand's evolved design language with surface-accentuated design and reduced lines. The front fascia features a low-positioned sport grill housing the three-pointed star. The rear on the other hand, is fitted with an elongated greenhouse that is shifted further towards the rear. In addition, it is also fitted with four frameless windows and innovative crystal optics for its taillights.
The new Coupe is also now significantly bigger than the previous model being 4826mm long, 1589mm wide, and 1430mm tall.
Inside, the new addition to the E-Class family comes standard with a 12.3-inch high resolution display while a 12.3-inch widescreen instrument cluster comes as an option. The digital instrument cluster also shows virtual panels which is available in three different styles including Classic, Sport and Progressive. It also features touch control buttons on the steering wheel, allowing the driver to control the instrument cluster as well as the multimedia system by simply swiping their fingers. Additional controls include a touchpad and controller that recognize handwriting.
Aside from these, the 2018 E-Class Coupe also gets a voice control system and direct-access buttons for controlling air conditioning.
The interior is also available in two new light wood trim packages such as natural grain and high-gloss finish. Meanwhile, the interior lighting is provided by the energy-saving LED technology with 64 color options.
Under the hood, the 2018 E-Class Coupe is powered by a 3.0L V6 biturbo engine. Both the E400 and 400 4Matic Coupes are paired with a 9G-Tronic nine-speed automatic transmission. The automaker claims that this allows quick gearshifts along with with lower engine speeds.
Other amenities include: Active Brake Assist, Drive Pilot, high-resolution LED intelligent light system and Magic Vision Control system.
The 2018 E-Class Coupe will be making its global debut in January at the 2017 North American International Auto Show in Detroit.
