All-new Mercedes-Benz Sprinter can be configured 'over 1,700' ways

After months of spyshots and previews, Mercedes-Benz has officially revealed the all-new Sprinter van. The company boasts that there are over 1,700 possible configurations for their new van with three drivetrain options, various body styles, wheelbase selections and a wide array of engines to choose from.

Its exterior closely resembles that of the preview sketch, save for its headlights. Whereas the drawing featured upswept headlights, the production model uses more conventional units. As for the rest of the body, the van has an upright sides, a tall windshield and, depending on the configuration, a high roof.

As mentioned, the over 1,700 possible configurations mean that there is a Sprinter van (or truck) for any job, according to Mercedes-Benz. There's the panel van, Tourer (van with windows), pickup, chassis, bus or tractor head as body types.

For now, the wheelbase lengths have yet to be mentioned but do expect it to range from short to (very) long. For heavy-duty applications, Mercedes-Benz says that the Sprinter can carry up to 5.5 tons worth of load.

Drivetrain options include rear-wheel drive, all-wheel drive, and for the first time, front-wheel drive. The front-wheel drive models can be specified with a nine-speed automatic (9G-tronic in MB speak) which the company says is a first for commercial vans.

Mercedes-Benz also boosted the available technology packages for the said van. Dubbed Mercedes PRO Connect, it connects all logistical and transport requirements in one system or application. It allows fleet managers to manage trips and assignments online and check vehicle information such as location, fuel level or maintenance intervals to be retrieved almost in real time.
