Porsche commences production of new Panamera Sport Turismo at upgraded Leipzig factory
Production of Porsche's latest model, the Panamera Sport Turismo has officially begun at the recently upgraded Leipzig plant. First revealed during the 2017 Geneva International Auto Show, the Panamera Sport Turismo serves as the wagon version of the F-segment fighter.
According to Porsche, the Leipzig plant hosts a number of upgrades including a new body shop for the Panamera model line. Beyond that, the EUR 500 million investment also allowed Porsche to put up a new quality center which helps in production of all-new models from development to series production.
“This launch confirms Leipzig’s leading role in the production of highly complex model and technology variants. As the winner of the J.D. Power Award, the plant is known for its outstanding production quality worldwide and its optimal mix of workshop manufacturing and series production,” said Gerd Rupp, chair of the Executive Board at Porsche Leipzig GmbH.
Aside from the Panamera, the factory also produces Porsche's crossover model range. This includes both the Cayenne and Macan.
In review, the 2018 Panamera Sport Turismo serves as the newest body style for the Panamera range and is based off the concept of the same name from 2012. Essentially a sport wagon, the Panamera Sport Turismo is available in a plethora of high-output engines. Driving the Panamera 4 Sport Turismo is a 3.0-liter turbo V6 which puts out 330 PS and 450 Nm of torque. Next is the more powerful 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6 for the Panamera 4S Sport Turismo. It generates 440 PS and 550 Nm of torque.
Further up the range is the sole turbo-diesel engine which displaces 4.0-liters. It puts out 422 PS along with 850 Nm of torque. At the top of the range is the Panamera Turbo Sport Turismo which gets a 4.0-liter twin-turbo gasoline V8. The eight-cylinder cranks out 550 PS and 700 Nm of torque.
For those that want performance and efficiency, there's the Panamera 4 E-Hybrid Sport Turismo. It has a total system output of 462 PS and 700 Nm of torque from its 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6 and electric motors.
