Just a few days ago, SsangYong released a teaser sketch for the all-new Rexton. Today, the Korean automaker has fully revealed their flagship SUV and, by the looks of it, remains faithful to both the sketch and the concept car it is based on.
The concept car in question is the LIV-2, unveiled during the 2016 Paris Motor Show. At the front are large headlights with an upswept design. Its grill meanwhile features a hexagonal design with three bars. The air intake at the corners, as well as the foglight housings can also be seen at the front fascia. The lower half of the front sees defined edges at the corner and a honeycomb pattern on the intakes.
On to its side, there are three bold character lines that defines the profile. These lines can be seen on the fender, doors and rear quarter panel. The third window follows the form of the Tivoli XLV which stems from the top to form the flat window line. According to SsangYong, the 2018 Rexton measures 4,850 mm long, 1,920 mm wide and 1,800 mm tall with a wheelbase of 2,865 mm. Like the outgoing model, the 2018 Rexton sticks to a body-on-frame chassis albeit with an all-new platform.
Inside, the dashboard follows a more angular look with squared-off edges at the corners. Leather trim can also be soon on the door panels, as well as the lower half of the dash. Also present is a wood panel on the passenger side along with silver trim on the face of the dashboard. As seen in the photo, two-tone leather trim is available.
Other interior features include ambient lighting, multi-information display, memory seats, multi-function steering wheel and automatic climate control. The new Rexton's infotainment system is a 9.2-inch touchscreen with high definition. The system features Apple Carplay and Android Auto with device mirroring, 3D AroundView Monitoring (AVM) and a wide 9.2-inch HD screen.
SsangYong has yet to announce the engine line-up but says it will be powered by both gas and turbodiesel mills. The automaker adds that the turbodiesels are also all-new with a leaner, cleaner burn.
