The all-new Suzuki Jimny is upon us. Well, sort of.

Following the leak from just a few days ago, yet another set of photos surfaced online. This time, it's as up close and personal we can get to the mini-SUV. Previewed to the Japanese media, it appears that the next-gen Jimny's official debut is not that far away.

These photos were uploaded by Instagram user 'Suzukinfluencer' although the main source is yet to be known. With these set of photos, it seems like the 2018 Jimny will make its official Japan launch next month, as indicated by '2018.7' on the poster. It also looks like there will be two versions of the SUV, one with no fender flares and the other with wider bumpers and the said flares. The latter is called the Jimny Sierra, possibly the higher-spec version.

Most of the snaps taken were of the non-flared variety, possibly hinting that this is the entry-level version. As spied before, the new look is unashamedly retro, taking cues from past mini 4x4s such as the Samurai and the classic SJ series. The boxy, upright shape is a throwback to the past, along with its circular headlights and a black front grill. Its bumpers are set rather high, perhaps for better approach angles for off-roading.

The boxy theme carries through to its sides. The large, flat windows hark back to the early days of SUVs. By the looks of things, it has a lot of ground clearance too, and the short tail should be an advantage as it gives it a steep departure angle. Other classic cues are the exposed drip rails on the roof and, for this particular car, its yellow paint which is reminiscent of the Samurai.

Besides the exterior photo leak, a brochure shot of the interior has also been spreading around the internet. In tune with the retro-modern theme, the dash is upright with an old school grab handle on the dashboard for the passengers. The instrument panel is of particular interest with its classic, squared-off cluster housing what appears to be analogue gauges. Between the tachometer and speedometer is a multi-information display.

Its center stack on the other hand comes with a touchscreen with the rest of the panel tilted towards the driver. Also, a push to start button brings the Jimny bang up to date. Lastly, the model shown in the supposed brochure shot is an automatic. It is yet to be known if Suzuki will still offer the Jimny with a manual transmission.

As for other details, the 2018 Jimny is said to retain the traditional body-on-frame construction. On top of that, it has been reported that it will also have a tried and tested transfer case. Engines on the other hand are likely to be 660cc, which is for Japan's Kei Car rules, a turbocharged 1.0-liter, and a naturally aspirated 1.2-liter.
