It was bound to happen sooner or later, but now Volvo has officially given the all-new XC60 the Polestar treatment. With it, the 2018 XC60 joins the ranks of the upgraded S60, V60, S90, V90 and XC90 Polestar vehicles.
In collaboration with the brand's motorsport division, Cyan Racing, Polestar claimed that the XC60 now generates more power and torque at the mid-range and now comes with a faster-shifting gearbox. In addition, the optimized XC60 also has better throttle response and holds the gears for longer to achieve maximum performance.
“Our goal is to create usable performance in everyday driving situations for Volvo owners who want an enhanced driving experience. The new XC60 has provided us with an excellent base to work on with a dynamic chassis and a state of the art powertrain. With the Polestar optimization, it makes the new Volvo XC60 a true drivers’ car,” said Henrik Fries, vice president in research and development at Polestar.
Originally, the T8-spec XC60 produced 407 PS with its 2.0-liter turbo inline-four and rear electric motor setup. Now, Polestar said that the upgrades allowed them to boost the plug-in hybrid's output to 421 PS. With it, the XC60 T8 Polestar is now as powerful as its bigger brother, the XC90 T8 Polestar.
Aside from the range-topping T8, Polestar also announced that all other variants of the XC60 can also receive the Polestar upgrade. These include the turbo gasoline T6 and T5, and the diesel-driven D5 and D4 models.
Like standard models, the XC60 Polestar can come with the R Design appearance package, along with the original warranty.
