Daihatsu gives the rebadged Toyota Camry more safety kit for 2019
Remember the all-new Daihatsu Altis which now closely resembles the new-generation Camry? Well, the company recently gave the 'rebadged' Toyota Camry additional safety features for the 2019 model year.
While it still comes with a sleek and eye-catching exterior design, Daihatsu gave the Altis a new high-tech safety kit called Intelligent Clearance Sonar (ICS). Like autonomous emergency braking, ICS works by constantly monitoring both the front and rear of the Altis for any obstacles. When it detects something, the system automatically engages the brakes for improved safety.
Aside from ICS, the 2019 Altis now benefits from automatic remote-controlled folding side mirrors. This allows drivers to remotely deploy or fold the door mirrors. Moreover, the side mirrors are also heated and come with LED turn signals for better visibility.
Topping everything off for the 2019 Altis is a new exterior hue called Emotional Red II. This color was first seen on the all-new Toyota Camry from which the Altis is based on.
As before, the Daihatsu Altis is powered by a new hybrid powertrain. It consists of a 2.5-liter inline-four with D-4S direct injection and an electric motor. The engine alone produces 178 PS with 221 Nm of torque while the electric motor puts out 120 PS and 220 Nm of torque.
Other smart safety features included in the Altis (beside ICS and autonomous emergency braking) include: pedestrian detection, active cruise control, lane departure warning, rear cross traffic alert and blind spot monitoring.
