Dodge updates their muscle sedan, the Charger, for 2019
It's not just the Challenger that gets an update for 2018. Dodge also made tweaks to their four-door muscle car, the Charger. With that, it gains some goodies from its two-door stablemate, as well as a new variant to further expand the range.
While the Charger Hellcat won't be getting a Redeye version like the Challenger, it still retains the crown of most powerful production sedan thanks to its 6.2-liter, supercharged HEMI V8 motor. Output is retained at 717 PS and 881 Nm of torque. What Dodge improved for the Charger Hellcat is the way it lays down its power.
It gains Launch Assist, which prevents driveshaft damaging wheel hop and regain full grip from a standing start. It also gets Line Lock, which engages the front brakes but leaves the rear wheels free for a burnout to heat up and clean the rear tires. To prevent engine damage after a track run, there is also an After-Run Chiller, which keeps cooling the supercharger after the engine is shut off .
For those who can't quite step up to the Hellcat, Dodge also offers the R/T Scat Pack. Dodge says that this variant offers 'the most muscle for the dollar' thanks to its 6.4-liter V8 making 492 PS and 644 Nm of torque and a price tag of under $40,000 (around Php 2,100,000 at current exchange rates). No manuals for the Scat Pack though, the lone transmission is an eight-speed automatic. The Scat Pack also gets Launch Assist and Line Lock, which is sourced from the revised Charger and Challenger Hellcat. As for the R/T, it serves as the entry-level V8 model, but it still makes a potent 381 PS and 535 Nm or torque.
Even the V6 models get updates, namely an addition to the range. Dubbed the Charger SXT AWD model, it uses the 3.6-liter Pentastar engine, rated at 305 PS and 358 Nm of torque. The all-wheel-drive system is similar to the ones found in crossovers. It comes with an active transfer case and front-axle disconnect, which engages all-wheel drive when needed and helps reduce fuel consumption when not in use.
