It has been four years since the guys over at Dodge SRT unleashed the first-ever Challenger Hellcat. Packed with more than 700 PS from a supercharged 6.2-liter HEMI V8, this beast proved to the world that American Muscle is still alive and well.
Now, it looks like the Hellcat will be receiving its first facelift for the 2019 model year. But instead of giving the mighty Challenger a futuristic redesign, they have decided to give it an old-school look.
Looking at the teaser photo provided, the 2019 Challenger Hellcat harkens back to the golden age of muscle cars. Sitting proudly up front is a sinister-looking, retro-inspired dual-snorkel hood that pays homage to iconic Dodge muscle cars from the '60s and '70s. Don't be fooled into thinking that this is all for show as Dodge claimed this is a fully-functional hood that sucks in air for the supercharger.
Beside the Hellcat, other models of the Challenger such as the R/T and SRT-8 will also get design changes for the upcoming refresh. As to what these will be remains to be seen since there is not much to go on from the teaser photos.
However, there is a rumor going around that certain technologies from the 850 PS Demon will make their way to the 2019 Hellcat. Apparently, features like the TransBrake, Air-Chiller and wide Nitto tires could come as standard on the Hellcat refresh. Meanwhile, the supercharged HEMI V8 will get a slight bump in power which may result in 725 PS.
More details and specs regarding the 2019 Challenger Hellcat will be revealed in the coming months.
