Well, that didn't take long.
We've gotten used to cars making their global debuts and having to wait almost a year before it hits our region. That wasn't the case with the all-new Mazda3. Launched just a few months ago in the 2018 Los Angeles Auto Show, the compact car has made its way to Southeast Asia, specifically at the 2019 Singapore Motor Show.
Granted, it's a preview for now but with its regional debut, the wait for the fouth-generation Mazda3 in the Philippines shouldn't take long. The model displayed at this year's motor show was rather unique. Instead of sporting the usual 'Soul Red' paint job, it was coated in a more subdued hue of dark, pearl-effect blue. Also, it was the sedan body style that has debuted in ASEAN. The hatchback could follow suit in due time.
Also, the car sitting in the showfloor isn't the ASEAN-spec model just yet. One look at the amber corner lights suggests that it is a US-spec model. Popping the hood, we weren't greeted by the revolutionary SkyActiv-X engine. Instead, residing there was the SkyActiv-G engine although it isn't certain of which exact engine was powering the car. It was also using an automatic transmission.
Either way, the car in Mazda Singapore's booth could still be far from the final versions for the region. On the flipside, it could also be there to gauge potential customer interest. During our time at the show, it was flocked by visitors. By the looks of things then, the all-new Mazda3 has the potential to be a sales success over in Southeast Asia and other countries.
