First, it was the XV and now, it’s the Forester.
Subaru is continuing their march towards hybrids with the Forester e-Boxer, and Motor Image has previewed it for the ASEAN market at this year's Singapore Motor Show. Does this mean we’ll be getting it soon too?
But first, the car, and it appears similar to the non-hybrid models. The 2019 Forester is also slightly bigger than the model it will soon replace. Overall, the exterior changes are evolutionary with larger headlights, narrower grill, taller windows, and unique tail lights. The hybrid models get a badge to distinguish it from the standard variant.
While the exterior redesign is a mild makeover, the cabin gets a significant redesign. The dashboard is a wraparound affair and, like the Impreza, the Forester has a special vehicle information screen which shows a 3D version of the car. For the hybrid, it gets a unique gauge cluster which shows the driver the current status of the electric assist system.
Powering the Forester e-Boxer is a 2.0-liter engine that is helped along by batteries. Total output is rated at 145 PS and 188 Nm of torque. It then shifts via a continuously variable transmission.
Perhaps the biggest technical highlight of the all-new crossover is its ability to run on pure electric power. Subaru says it can run up to 50 kilometers in electric mode, depending on conditions.
As to the matter of it being available here, there is a possibility of it making it to the Philippine market.
If it does make it to our shores, it will be the first hybrid Subaru in the country.
