After revealing the GR Supra Racing Concept earlier this year at the Geneva International Motor Show and a number of teaser photos later, Toyota Motor Corporation has finally set a reveal date for the production-model Supra. The highly-anticipated 5th generation 2020 model year Supra will be making its world premiere at the upcoming 2019 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit, held from January 14 and 27.

Throughout 2018, Toyota has consistently revealed teasers of the upcoming Supra. In fact, they even brought a camouflaged prototype model to the Goodwood Festival of Speed, giving show goers a chance to see the next-gen Supra in action. More recently, in October, the Supra also took part in VLN Endurance Championship Nürburgring, Race 9 and completed the race, as part of the vehicle's development activities.

There is much speculation as to what powertrain the Supra will carry and whether or not it will be offered with a manual transmission. Should it follow the BMW Z4’s powertrain, it will be offered with both a four- and a six-cylinder gasoline engines options. Currently the Z4 is being offered a 20i, 30i and most powerful 40i option which packs a 390 PS and 500 Nm torque. That said, it is possible that Toytota will still be tweaking the engine to produce more power.

Deliveries of the new Supra will begin globally in the first half of 2019. Let’s hope that Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) does bring their new sports car in, as well.
