SMC Asia Car Distributors Corporation, the official distributor of BMW in the Philippines, will be holding its first-ever digital launch soon, and they have something special for fans and enthusiasts alike. After making its world debut late last year, BMW's latest compact sedan is about to arrive in the Philippines.
Following the local launch of the 2020 X1 and 1 Series last February, BMW Philippines will soon be revealing the all-new 2 Series Gran Coupe. No longer a rear-wheel-drive model, the newest compact car from the Bavarian automaker is now underpinned by the company's UKL front-wheel-drive platform and features a sleeker design.
While the front fascia may look similar to the 1 Series, the center and rear design are totally unique. It has a long, flowing design that follows with the car's Gran Coupe nomenclature. It also has pillarless doors that appear to be a direct nod to its bigger brother, the 4 Series Gran Coupe. But perhaps serving as the 2 Series Gran Coupe's most discerning feature are its 8 Series-inspired L-shaped taillights at the back.
Inside, more similarities with the 1 Series are present. From the leather-wrapped steering wheel, instrument panel, center console, as well as the iDrive infotainment system, the 2 Series has plenty of toys and features. High-quality leather, piano black, and metal accents, along with the optional LED ambient lighting, give the 2 Series Gran Coupe a cool and comfy vibe.
A wide array of engine options are available for the 2 Series Gran Coupe. The range starts with the 218i which gets a 1.5-liter TwinPower Turbo inline-three at pushes out 140 PS and 220 Nm of torque. Next is the more powerful 220d which generates 190 PS and 450 Nm of torque from a 2.0-liter turbo-diesel inline-four. Finally, there's the top-of-the-line M235i xDrive which is powered by a boosted 2.0-liter TwinPower Turbo inline-four that cranks out 306 PS and 450 Nm of torque.
There is no word yet as to what powertrains will be available for the PH-spec 2 Series Gran Coupe. However, the 218i is available with a seven-speed dual-clutch while the 220d and M235i xDrive are only paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission.
The 2020 BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe will officially be revealed online at 8:00 PM, June 20, 2020, across BMW Philippines' Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube social media pages
