Cadillac, a brand always known for going big with a literally big vehicle lineup. Not to be discounted is the fact that it has also been at the forefront of luxury since its inception. Now that the surge of crossovers and the growth of Asian brands and automobiles has all but strengthened, Cadillac steps up to stay in the game.
At this year’s New York International Auto Show, Cadillac is out to show us that sedans are far from being a thing of the past, while luxury is something that can still be found in the Cadillac brand to this day.
Enter the CT5. With this new compact-fastback sedan, Cadillac wants to push the brand’s award-winning legacy with a distinctive fusion of design, performance, and comfort. All these, while being supported by the brand’s latest technology; main of which is Super Cruise. This newest tech is touted by Cadillac as “the world’s first true hands-free driver assitance feature for limited access freeways”.
“The first-ever Cadillac CT5 showcases Cadillac’s unique expertise in crafting American luxury sedans. Its details elevate every drive and reward the senses”, said Steve Carlisle, president of Cadillac.
There truly is no shortage in what the CT5 offers, and Cadillac seems to have pulled out all the stops when they thought of making it. It’s set to come in 3 variants: Luxury, Premium Luxury, and Sport. On top of the 2nd and 3rd variants, an added Platinum package is an available option for further up its oomph factor.
From its looks alone, inspired by the Escala concept and its fastback profile, the CT5 is sending Cadillac on a new direction for sedan design. Overall, the CT5’s design leverages on the vehicle’s RWD platform in order to exhude power, presence, and performance.
On the inside, it’s all about elegance for the CT5. Wide surface lines and simple interfaces only manage to highlight Cadillac’s focus on quality, their choce of materials, and their impeccable craftsmanship. The entire orientation was made to be driver-centric, thus putting everything within easy reach, and thus minimizing any distractions while being at the CT5’s helm.
Technology and connectivity are also highlights of Cadillac’s newest sedan. From pairing with the infotainment system, to using its intuitive interface, heated/ventilated seats, a smart automatic climate control, the list goes on to take this sedan ahead of its class.
A 2.0L twin-scroll turbo engine is standard, but the 2 top-tier variants have a 3.0L twin-turbo V6 available as well; both engines are paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission. Even more impressive is that while the CT5’s driving dynamics build on Cadillac’s award-winning RWD architecture, an AWD drivetrain has also been made available from factory.
“Cadillac is dedicated to building the world’s most exhilarating luxury sedans. Every element of the CT5 is focused on delivering an unrivaled experience, from the 10-speed transmission to Cadillac’s Super Cruise technology. The expansion of Super Cruise to CT5 reinforces our commitment to bringing the most innovative technologies to our customers”, Carlisle adds.
Cadillac, unfortunately, has no official or authorized distributor in the Philippines. But since that doesn't stop a few gray market dealers from importing their own units of models like the Escalade for sale, maybe we can see a few CT5 units on our roads in hte future.
