What you’re looking at right now is the newly updated Ford Ranger Raptor for the 2020 model year. Yes, we know what you’re thinking – “What’s different?” It seems like the automaker barely touched the pickup’s already rugged exterior as it looks exactly the same as before.
Rather than changing the look, however, they focused on improving the high-performance off-roader by adding more safety features similar to what you’d find on the top-of-the-line Ranger Wildtrak and Everest.
The biggest upgrade is the new Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) system which is already found on the Ranger Wildtrak and the Everest Titanium variants. The camera-based system includes pedestrian detection and vehicle detection, helpful for navigating the traffic-laden roads of Manila (or in our case Vietnam). Meanwhile, Lane Keep Assist System (LKAS) also makes its way to the Ranger Raptor.
On the outside, the only visible change would be the new LED headlights, upgraded from the previous HID units. It’s quite hard to tell the two apart, but the new ones feature a square-shaped projector. For reference, the older model had a more circular design. Apart from that, everything else remains the same. From the Raptor exclusive bumper and wider fenders to the 17-inch wheels with chunky all-terrain tires.
Inside, the cabin remains the same, but you do get a high-mount USB which makes plugging in a dash camera easier. Automatic headlights now come standard as well together with an updated design infotainment system. Under the hood, the Raptor’s 2.0-liter Bi-Turbo diesel engine continues to produce 213 PS and 500 Nm of torque. A 10-speed automatic sends power to all four wheels. Terrain Management System ensures that the Raptor can go anywhere and everywhere without a hitch.
The great thing about the 2020 Ranger Raptor is that all of the upgrades will come free. As such, the price of the high-performance pickup will remain as it is. Currently, the Ranger Raptor retails for Php 1,998,000. The new Performance Blue color (as seen in the main photo) is also available at no extra charge.
