Planning to own the all-new 2020 Isuzu D-Max once it arrives here in the country? The ASEAN New Car Assessment Program (NCAP) is giving everyone interested in buying one a good reason after they recently awarded the pick-up truck with a perfect five-star crash safety rating.

Tested last January, the D-Max scored high in both adult occupancy (AOP) and child occupancy tests (COP). Beginning with the former, the D-Max was able to score 12.36 points out of 16.00 in the frontal impact test. Meanwhile, it scored a perfect 16.00 points in the side impact test and 2.40 out of 4.00 in head protection.

Based on dummy tests, both the driver and front passenger received adequate to good protection in the frontal impact tests. However, ASEAN NCAP did note that the driver's right knee only had marginal protection in an event of a frontal impact. Over to side impact, dummy readings showed that both the driver's chest and head were well protected.

Child occupants in the D-Max are also well-protected. In both the front and side impact tests, the D-Max scored a perfect 8.00 and 4.00 points, respectively. It also managed to score well in in child seat installation which is always a plus.

When it comes to safety features, the 2020 D-Max did not disappoint as it came with dual front airbags, and anti-lock brakes with electronic brakeforce distribution as standard. Meanwhile, electronic stability control will be available as an option across all market regions. In addition, the new D-Max is now available with blind spot assist which helps the driver see other vehicles / motorcycles on their blind spots.

The model tested by ASEAN NCAP is the Thai-spec dual cab version with the 1.9-liter RZ4E turbo-diesel. This means other markets like the Philippines will most likely have those safety features as well. We're not quite sure if the blind spot assist will be available but we sure hope that Isuzu Philippines Corporation (IPC) makes it an optional extra.

With its perfect five-star safety rating, we certainly cannot wait for the 2020 Isuzu D-Max to make its official debut in the country.
