Last week, Jeep Philippines teased what appeared to be 2020 Renegade. First revealed back in the middle of 2018, the tiny crossover has received a more upmarket look thanks to a sleeker-looking exterior, a more ergonomic and high-tech interior, as well as a host of new turbocharged engines.
Now, Jeep Philippines has officially confirmed that the Renegade (as well as the Compass) will soon be launched in the country. But just how much will the refreshed Renegade cost? Well, according to an insider, the 2020 Renegade will be priced below PhP 2 million.
Compared to the outgoing Renegade 4x2 Limited we got to test before, it looks like the updated model will sell at a more affordable price since the previous model sold for PhP 2,145,000. Now you're probably wondering how Jeep was able to price the refreshed Renegade lower than the model it's going to replace?
Well, just like the upcoming Compass, it looks like Jeep might source the 2020 Renegade from China in order to take advantage of the China-ASEAN Free Trade Agreement (C-AFTA). This will allow Jeep to bring the price of the Renegade down, while still offering plenty of standard features and amenities.
Exact specifications of the 2020 Jeep Renegade have yet to be finalized. But looking at international versions of the Renegade, the PH-spec crossover could come with a 5.0-inch Uconnect touchscreen infotainment system that comes with navigation, Android Auto, and Apple CarPlay as standard. It might also come with dual-zone automatic climate control, power-adjustable driver's seat, full leather upholstery, and ambient LED interior lighting.
There's no word yet as to what engine will power the 2020 Jeep Renegade. There's a good chance, however, that the 1.4-liter MultiAir Turbo inline-four could be carried over. Should there be a new engine offering, a new 1.3-liter turbo four-cylinder could make its way to the Renegade with 150 PS or 180 PS, depending on the state of tune. There is also no word whether the new one will be all-wheel-drive or front-wheel-drive only.
With the 2020 Jeep Renegade getting ready for its local debut soon, we might not have to wait long before its actual (online) reveal. Fingers crossed both it and the Compass will be revealed simultaneously for the Philippine market.
