After countless spy photos and a myriad of teasers, the all-new Mercedes-Benz CLA has officially been revealed to the world. Making its public debut at the Consumer Electronics Show 2019 (CES) in Las Vegas, the new baby Benz gets a sleeker look, is teeming with cutting-edge technologies, and is clearly aimed at a much younger clientele.
Starting with the most obvious change, the new CLA gets a radical new look. Much like its hatchback brethren (the A-Class), the four-door now comes with an aggressive front fascia courtesy of flatter LED headlights, a sportier front grill and a more aerodynamic front bumper. Staying true to its 'coupe-inspired looks', the 2020 CLA retains the long hood, short deck styling from before.
Also worth noting on the CLA are its new set of taillights and redesigned rear bumper that further highlight the car's sporiter character. Finally, it now has a wide array of wheel designs that range from 16-inches to 19-inches. Tire sizes, on the other hand, will start from 205/60/R16 and end all the way to 225/40/R19.
In terms of size, the new CLA measures 4688mm long, 1830mm wide, 1439mm tall and has a 2729mm wheelbase. This makes the all-new sedan longer by 48mm, wider by 53mm but shorter by 2mm in height. The headroom may have shrun, but it does get an extra 30mm of wheelbase than before.
Open the doors and you are immediately greeted by two digital screens. That's right, the CLA now comes with Mercedes-Benz's high-tech MBUX infotainment system. First released in the new A-Class, it replaces the previous COMAND system and comes with a variety of wireless connectivity features, and touchscreen / hand gesture functions.
But perhaps its most important feature is intelligent voice control. Serving as your personal 'Siri' or 'Alexa', this neat feature can be activated by saying 'Hey Mercedes'. With that, drivers can check the weather, look for a place to eat, map out places / destinations to go to, and even look up local news and sports updates on the web.
Other available in-car features and amenties in the 2020 CLA include: heads-up display, LED ambient lighting, heated seats with massage function, and a plethora of active safety assist systems (emergency stop assist, lange change assist, brake assist, lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control with active distance assist).
For its initial launch in the US, the all-new CLA only gets one engine option for the meantime. Under the hood of the CLA 250 is a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four that is mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox. It produces a healthy 225 PS along with a meaty 335 Nm of torque.
Come May however, the engine range for the all-new CLA will broaden to include several gas-powered turbo fours and diesel-powered mills. There will also be a manual transmission option, as well as 4Matic all-wheel drive capability for the new CLA.
