2020 MG 5 joins budget sedan battle at Php 658,888

If you noticed, there are more and more MGs on the roads recently, especially the ZS crossover. Soon, we might start seeing more MG models on the road. However, it won't just be their crossovers this time. Instead, it could also be their newly launched sub-compact sedan – the MG 5.

Launched last September 13 in Cebu, the new MG 5 will go up against some of the most popular models in the sub-compact category. Though MG Philippines classifies it as a sub-compact, the size is more in line with that of compact (C-segment) vehicle. It measures in 4,601mm long, 1,788mm wide, and has a 2,680mm wheelbase, giving occupants better legroom inside.

Only one engine option is available for the MG 5 locally – a 1.5-liter, DOHC 16-valve, naturally-aspirated engine that produces 114 PS and 150 Nm torque. It is available with either a 5-speed manual transmission or a continuously variable transmission (CVT), depending on the variant.

Inside, the cabin is loaded with loads of tech. Situated front and center is a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system that comes with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. A 360-degree vehicle view makes it easier to park in tight spaces as well as obstructions in low-speed traffic. Power-adjustable seats and automatic headlights are just some of the features available in the MG 5.

Other features available in the MG 5 include 4-wheel disc brakes, hill start assist, auto brake hold, push start/stop button, cruise control, electronic climate control, tire pressure monitoring, and a reverse camera. A sunroof is also available on the top-of-the-line offerings.

For those worried about after-sales services, MG Philippines offers the MG 5 with a 5-year or 100,000 km warranty, and 1-year free periodic maintenance service (PMS). Booking service appointments can be done via an app, making it easier to schedule. 24/7 roadside support is also available via MG HERO Services.
