After teasing us at the 2019 Manila International Auto Show, Land Rover Philippines has finally launched the all-new Range Rover Evoque. Following its global debut last November 2018, the British marque’s smallest Range Rover is now here in the metal and is ready to hit the streets of Metro Manila.
Though it might be hard to tell from afar, the 2020 Range Rover Evoque shown here is indeed all-new and not just simply a facelifted model. That said, the design of the new model appears to be an evolution of the previous-generation model rather than a radical makeover. It even retained the signature floating roof and arched fenders design.
Up front, the Evoque now looks a lot meaner thanks to a slim pair of LED headlights, larger grill, and more aggressive bumpers. At the rear, the Evoque appears to have adopted some of the Velar’s styling cues. In particular, the new LED taillights, tailgate trim piece, and rear bumper make it look somewhat like a Velar Jr.
Inside, the 2020 Evoque gets a digital makeover as it now comes with an array of monitors and displays. The instrument panel is now fully digital, as well as the climate control system. On the other hand, the TouchPro infotainment system has been upgraded with faster software and now comes with a new interface. Standard amenities such as navigation, automatic climate control, smartphone mirroring, and even personalization settings are available for the Evoque.
Aside from those, other changes and new additions inside the new Evoque include: 16-way power-adjustable front seats, Windsor leather or perforated leather upholsteries, panoramic sunroof, Meridian sound system, power tailgate, a new gear selector, and an engine start-stop button.
Powering the PH-spec Evoque are a choice of either turbo-gasoline or turbo-diesel. First up is the 2.0-liter turbo-diesel inline-four which produces 180 PS at 2400 rpm along with 430 Nm of torque at 1750 – 2500 rpm. Next is the 2.0-liter turbo-gasoline four-cylinder engine which puts out 249 PS at 5500 rpm with 365 Nm of torque at 1300 – 4300 rpm.
There's also a mild hybrid (MHEV) powertrain which produces an impressive 300 PS at 5500 rpm along with 400 Nm of torque at 1500 – 4500 rpm. It gets its power from a 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engine that is helped along by an electric motor and 48V battery pack.
All of the engines are connected to a nine-speed automatic transmission and is paired to an all-wheel drive system. The mild-hybrid version also benefits from an active driveline.
A wide array of safety features and active safety systems are also available in the 2020 Evoque. Some of these include: reverse camera with all-around parking sensors, adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, driver condition monitoring, blind spot monitoring, and autonomous emergency braking.
Also worth noting on the Evoque are the ClearSight rear-view mirror, and the Ground View system which helps drivers see out the back better and avoid debris on the ground respectively.
