Toyota's track record for safety has been stellar these past couple of years. From the Vios to the Fortuner, they've been consistently been getting five stars for safety from the ASEAN New Car Assessment Program or ASEAN NCAP. The marque's streak continues with the latest car tested by the said agency.
That car is the all-new Corolla Altis, and yes, it got five stars for safety. Not only did ASEAN NCAP praise the Corolla Altis for its crash performance, they also lauded it for having active safety features in all variants sold across the region. In their words, “The new Toyota Corolla Altis performed very well in the test under the three assessed domains”.
For adult occupant protection (AOP), the new compact car from Toyota scored 13.80 points out of 16.00 in frontal offset collision protection, while side impact protection yielded a near perfect score of 15.91 points out of 16.00. Head protection on the other hand was a perfect 4.00 out of 4.00. All in all, the Corolla Altis bagged 94 percent in AOP.
Child occupants are just as safe in the all-new Corolla Altis. Front and side impact protection was rated perfect, scoring maximum points of 16.00 and 8.00 respectively. Installation of child seats were rated good as well.
ASEAN NCAP lauded the car for having stability control standard in all variants sold across the region. The fact that it also has seven airbags standard in every variant helped boost the safety rating of the Corolla Altis. Myanmar-spec models were a special mention, as they even get rear seat belt reminders over there.
The model tested for the crash test was in Thai-spec form. That means the safety kit equipped on that car can also be found in local units, from the seven airbags to the stability control. In addition, Corolla Altis Hybrid models even have TSS or Toyota Safety Sense. Pre-collision system, automatic high-beam, lane tracing assist, lane departure warning, and adaptive cruise control are part of the TSS package.
