It has been a long time coming, but very soon, we will see the first electrified model to come from Maserati as the Italian luxury marque will be officially launching it on July 15.

Unfortunately, it is not the highly-anticipated twin-turbo hybrid V6 MC20 supercar. That one is set to launch later this year. Instead, it is the 2021 Ghibli that will take the title of Maserati’s first electrified model featuring a hybrid powertrain.

Yes, you read that right. It won’t be an all-new model. Instead, the upcoming 2021 Ghibli Hybrid will continue to be based on the current-generation model. However, it will mark the first time the sports sedan will undergo a facelift for the first time after nearly seven years on the market. Interestingly, the Ghibli was also the first Maserati to feature a diesel engine in the lineup. Soon, it will be first to boast a hybrid powertrain.

At the moment, there are no details about the 2021 Maserati Ghibli Hybrid just yet. But considering it is essentially a facelift, expect to see styling changes made to the sport sedan’s exterior. At the same time, Maserati could also add some changes to the interior as well. Undoubtedly, the biggest change will be found under the hood with the new hybrid powertrain. It is also possible that the current lineup of diesel and gasoline engines will be carried over.

With the upcoming launch of the Ghibli Hybrid, a new era of Maserati begins. Not long after, more electrified models will follow including the next-generation GranTurismo and GrandCabriolet, Levante, and Quattroporte. However, it is the MC20 that is the most anticipated model, as it will serve as the brand's flagship supercar.
