Hyundai just can't seem to get enough of making hot hatchbacks. After revealing the 2021 i30 N a couple of weeks ago, the automaker released a teaser image of its newest hot hatch, the i20 N.
Inspired by the i20 WRC Rally Car, the upcoming i20 N will serve as Hyundai's smallest hot hatch offering and will be powered by a turbocharged engine.
Based on the image provided by Hyundai, the i20 N will come with the familiar Performance Blue paint scheme, Phantom Black Roof, and red exterior accents first seen on the i30 N. It will also have what appears to be a huge front grille painted black, a prominent front splitter and side skirts, and larger corner air intakes. Large disc brakes with large N-branded brake calipers, as well as stylish alloy wheels wrapped in low-profile tires, give the i20 N its sporting character.
There are no images yet of the i20 N's interior. However, we won't be surprised if it will have similar upgrades to its bigger brother, the i30 N. This means we can expect it to have body-hugging bucket seats, a thick leather steering wheel, and a more performance-oriented gauge cluster and infotainment system.
Under the hood, the i20 N will be powered by a 1.6-liter turbocharged inline-four that will be mated to a six-speed manual transmission with a limited-slip differential. It is set to make over 200 PS, as well as 275 Nm of torque. With that kind of power output from a lightweight body, the i20 N can reportedly sprint from 0 – 100 km/h in 6.7 seconds, and reach a top speed of 230 km/h.
With Hyundai gearing up for the big reveal, it looks like the Ford Fiesta ST will be facing stiff competition soon out on the open road.
