This year's NYAS has been canceled for a reason we're all too familiar with
If there’s one thing we miss, it’s major auto shows from around the world. Fortunately, we got a glimpse of it earlier this year when the 2021 Auto Shanghai pushed through. It’s one of the few live motoring events, along with the Bangkok International Motor Show (BIMS), to be held since the pandemic hit.
Another event we were looking forward to was the 2021 New York Auto Show (NYAS) scheduled to take place later this August. Well, it seems that’s not happening after all. And the reason? It’s one we’re all too familiar with – COVID.
2021 NYAS organizers announced that the show has been canceled and will no longer take place in 2021. Specifically, show organizers say the rapid spread of the COVID-19 Delta variant and the increased measures by state and local officials to curb the spread caused the show’s cancellation.
It’s the second time the NYAS has been postponed; it was supposed to take place in spring 2021. Instead, it is tentatively scheduled to return to its original spring timeframe in April 2022.
The 2021 NYAS was one of the highly anticipated events this year. Several automakers were scheduled to debut new models at the show, including the all-new 2022 Subaru WRX and the production model of the new Nissan Z. But with its cancellation, we're not sure if the launches will be rescheduled or push through, albeit exclusively through an online reveal. We will update you on this, so stay tuned.
With the NYAS canceled and the Delta variant continuously spreading, we won’t be surprised if other major motoring events slated for 2021 are canceled too.
