Toyota gave us all quite a surprise when they unveiled the Vios GR Sport. We were expecting it to come out in 2021, but it seems that they couldn't wait much longer and debuted it just before the end of 2020 in Malaysia. Now, the Japanese automaker is at it again by launching it here.
Yes, folks, the Vios GR Sport is now in the country. We may not get all of the special models from abroad in the country, but this is a step in the right direction. The best part is, we get most of the goodies from the overseas versions.
No, it doesn't have a more powerful engine, but the GR Sport is more than a Vios with a body kit. It isn't common when a sport edition gets a new transmission, but that's exactly what this model has. While it doesn't have a manual transmission, it now boasts a continuously variable transmission with ten simulated gears. For comparison, the standard Vios has seven speeds.
As for the styling kit, the Vios GR Sport draws some inspiration from the GR Yaris. It has a large center grille, complete a honeycomb design, and side intake vents with horizontal slats. New side skirts were fitted together with a new rear bumper, and an integrated diffuser. Completing the look are the trunk spoiler, black mirrors and door handles, GR badges, and 16-inch alloy wheels shod in high-performance tires.
There are more upgrades inside, too. The Vios GR-S gets sports seats with thicker bolsters to keep the front passengers in place. For a sportier look, red stitching is found all around the cabin including the steering wheel, shift lever, and seats.
Prices for the 2021 Toyota Vios GR Sport start at PHP 1,020,000.
