All-new BMW 2 Series Coupe will be sliding into Goodwood soon

The launch of BMW's new all-electric i-models such as the i4 and iX is very exciting news for the company. It previews what the Bavarian marque's electric future looks like. But for those that still believe in the combustion engine and want to have some fun, the new 2 Series is the model they're looking out for. Thankfully, the wait won't be too long now. BMW announced that the all-new 2 Series Coupe will debut on July 8, 2021, at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.

BMW's new 2 Series Coupe won't be like the sedan and the hatchback. That's because the Coupe will still be rear-wheel drive like the current model on sale today. Yes, it can still go sideways, and BMW has proven it through the set of prototype photos before. With that, you can think of it as something like a junior version of the 4 Series Coupe.

According to the automaker, the 2 Series Coupe promises to continue the long tradition of BMW driver-oriented compact and powerful two-door models, a modern-day interpretation of the BMW 2002. What makes it even more interesting is that the model is the only compact BMW in the range with rear-wheel drive, and it rides on the brand's new CLAR platform.

Details are still scarce, and the 2 Series Coupe is still heavily covered in camouflage. With that, we're not sure if it will adopt the new vertical grille design found on the 4 Series as well as the high-performance M3 and M4 models. That said, BMW did say the range-topping M240i will be powered by a 3.0-liter TwinPower Turbo inline-six engine, same as the one used in the M440i xDrive, good for 374 PS.

We can't wait for the arrival of the 2 Series Coupe, mainly because the next-generation M2 and M2 Competition will follow suit. BMW has yet to mention anything about them yet, but it should debut a few months after the 2 Series Coupe. Considering how popular the M2 and M2 Competition is in the Philippines, fans will be waiting for its announcement and imminent arrival.
