Kia Philippines highlights new brand philosophy with next-generation Sorento
Earlier this year, Kia rebranded itself with a new logo, slogan, and new brand philosophy. Aimed to deliver better products and improved customer service, the automaker aims to accelerate into a brighter and bolder future with “movement that inspires”.
Today, that change has arrived in the Philippines, and what better way to show their commitment than by launching an all-new model. Meet the 2022 Kia Sorento.
The Sorento features Kia's new design language. Compared to the outgoing model, the 2022 Sorento has a more chiseled and defined exterior. It adopts a new tiger-nose grille that is larger than its predecessor. It also comes with stylish LED headlights, inverted L-shaped LED daytime running lights, and a sporty front bumper.
As for the rest of the vehicle, it adopts new vertical LED taillights inspired by its bigger brother, the Telluride. Meanwhile, it gets a frameless window look thanks to the door pillars painted in gloss black. The all-new crossover also breaks from tradition with its upswept window line.
Size-wise, the fourth-generation Sorento is now bigger than its predecessor. Measuring 4810mm long, 1900mm wide, and 1695mm tall, it's 30mm longer, 20mm wider, and 5mm taller than the outgoing model. The wheelbase has also been extended by 35mm and now measures 2815mm, resulting in a more spacious cabin.
Like the exterior, the cabin of the all-new Sorento gets a major redesign. The dashboard is lined with full-leather upholstery and metal accents. Providing infotainment is a massive 8-inch touchscreen media system that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The infotainment system is paired with a new 12.3-inch digital instrument panel. Like the third-generation model, the all-new Sorento comes with three rows of seats.
When it comes to its other amenities, it comes with the following: power seats with driver memory function, front-seat ventilation, electric folding rear seats, drive mode selection (Comfort, Eco, Sport, Smart), six-speaker sound system, heated steering wheel, power tailgate, and dual-zone automatic climate control.
Under the hood, the 2022 Sorento is powered by a 2.2-liter Smartstream turbo-diesel engine. It makes 202 PS with 441 Nm of torque and is paired to an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission.
In terms of safety, the all-new Sorento will be available with intelligent safety features on the range-topping SX. These include a blind spot monitor, 360-degree surround-view camera, rear cross-traffic alert, forward collision avoidance assist, and lane-keep with following assist.
Apart from those, the crossover also comes with 6 airbags, front/rear parking sensors, anti-lock brakes with electronic brakeforce distribution, brake assist, traction control, and an electronic stability program.
The all-new Kia Sorento in top-of-the-line 4x2 SX DCT variant will be available starting the fourth week of November, while the 4x2 EX DCT will be on the market by January 2022. Available colors include Aurora Black Pearl, Silky Silver, and Snow White Pearl.
