We're way past the notion of hybrids being perceived as slow vehicles. Some high-performance cars now pack a hybrid assist system, which not only saves fuel but also adds power. But one manufacturer has bold claims about their hybrid. That marque is Porsche, and it's with the Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid.

While the name is a mouthful, the stats are impressive. The electric-assisted Panamera packs 700 PS and a staggering 870 Nm of torque. That gives this Panamera a 0 to 100 km/h time of just 3.2 seconds and a top speed of 315 km/h. Not only that, Porsche says this car can get up to 37 kilometers per liter. You can even extend that thanks to a pure-electric drive mode that offers nearly 60 kilometers of range on a single charge.

So how did Porsche do it? For the engine, it's a 4.0-liter bi-turbo V8 engine that makes 571 PS. It's then assisted by a 100 kW electric motor charged by a 17.9 kWh battery. To send that power on the road as efficiently as possible, the hybrid Panamera Turbo S uses all-wheel-drive for maximum traction. Further shaving off acceleration times is the transmission, which is an updated version of the eight-speed dual-clutch transmission.

Aside from its performance credentials, it's a green vehicle too. Not only can it average 37 kilometers per liter, this hybrid Porsche only puts out 63 grams per kilometer of carbon dioxide emissions. As mentioned earlier, you can drive it in pure electric power, and you don't have to worry about losing charge. That's because this Panamera is a plug-in hybrid. That also means you can top up the charge before you leave and let the system recharge itself through regenerative braking, giving you more electric range. Also, this powertrain is available in the Sport Turismo "wagon".

Sadly, Porsche Philippines does not offer hybrid versions of their vehicles. That said, the Panamera Turbo S E-hybrid makes a good hybrid offering for the company. Then again, they already offer the all-electric Taycan here, so the odds of the hybrid Panamera coming here are slim. If you really want one, perhaps you should as Porsche Philippines very nicely if they can bring one in for you.
