After D9 & B5, Denza B8 also gets LTO approval

Last week, we found out that the Land Transportation Office (LTO) has released homologation papers for the Denza D9 and B5 plug-in hybrid (PHEV) models. Both vehicles come with a 1497cc gasoline engine that's assisted by electric motors and are equipped with a lithium-iron phosphate battery.

Since the LTO already lists both the D9 and B5 models, and they are also on the DOE's list of recognized PHEVs, we can expect them to make their Philippine debut very soon. But where is the Denza B8? Well, the LTO has just given clearance to the B8, which will likely serve as the flagship plug-in hybrid SUV. Based on a recently released memorandum circular, the Denza B8 will be offered in Dynamic and Premium variants, just like what BYD designates to some of its models.

Both the B8 Dynamic and Premium models will measure 5195mm long, 1994mm wide, 1905mm tall, and will have a 2920mm wheelbase. They also have 250mm of ground clearance and 20-inch wheels wrapped in 275/55 series tires.

Under the hood, the Dynamic and Premium versions of the Denza B8 will feature a 1997cc four-cylinder gasoline engine, likely indicating a turbocharged engine, similar to the one found in the BYD Tang & eMAX 9 DM-i models. It is then assisted by a pair of electric motors that deliver a combined electric output of 500 kW or 680 PS.

On a full charge, the lithium-iron phosphate battery of the B8 Dynamic & Premium gives the plug-in hybrid SUV an electric range of up to 180 km. When connected to an AC charger, Denza claims it can be fully recharged in just 3.5 hours. On the other hand, a fast DC charger can recharge the B8 from 20% to 80% in just 10 minutes.

With the Denza B8 now approved by the LTO, its Philippine debut alongside the B5 and the D9 has essentially been confirmed. We're curious just how much Denza Philippines will price its new premium PHEVs.
