Friends in the south, prepare for more traffic
Residents in the south, we have some bad news: be prepared for more traffic along the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) and along the East and West Service Roads. San Miguel Corporation (SMC) announced that the Alabang Southbound exit toll plaza will be closed starting February 20 to make way for the on-going Skyway Extension.
According to Skyway management, work on the southbound section is about to enter the advance phase. As a result, they need to close the toll plaza located beside the Alabang Viaduct. SMC has prepared alternative routes for motorists affected by the closure.
For Class 1 (Light vehicles) headed to Alabang Zapote, they may take Filinvest Exit Toll Plaza towards their destination. Class 1, 2, and 3 vehicles bound for Alabang, Putatan, and National Road may also take the Susana Exit Toll Plaza, turn right at Susana Heights Ave., and turn either left or right on the National Road towards their respective destinations.
Aside from the closure of the Alabang Southbound Toll Plaza, SMC advises motorists to expect heavy traffic in the area due to the on-going construction. The work will include the installation of girders, coping beams, and pre-cast slabs.
“We’re again appealing for patience and understanding from our motorists in the south and residents in the area, for any delays that they may experience, as we work to complete the Skyway Extension. We’ve put in place measures to help mitigate the impact on you and to ensure safety. There is no way of getting around this key stage in construction. We really have to do it. It will be a temporary inconvenience, but I promise you, the benefits--eliminating traffic and providing seamless travel--will be well worth it,” said SMC president Ramon Ang.
Once complete, the Skyway Extension project will extend the elevated expressway from Sucat, Paranaque to Susana Heights at SLEX. It will give motorists a more convenient way of getting around Metro Manila by providing a direct connection to Skyway 1, 2, and the newly opened Stage 3.
