Volvo Philippines gives a glimpse of new-generation XC60
A new premium crossover from Sweden will soon be available in the Philippines. Making its official preview in the country is the new-generation Volvo XC60. Launched during the brand's Crayfish Party in partnership with the Nordic Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines, the 2018 XC60 features a sleeker exterior along with a plethora of new technologies.
“Volvo Philippines is proud to give the market a glimpse of the new XC60, and we are confident this Volvo will once again be a strong player in its segment, said Chris Yu, Marketing Head of Volvo Philippines.
First revealed during the 2017 Geneva International Motor Show, the new XC60 closely resembles the brand's flagship crossover, the XC90. The front fascia gets the signature Thor's Hammer LED headlights and new uniform front grill design. Shod in the wheel wells are stylish five-spoke alloy wheels wrapped in low-profile tires. Topping it all off are the distinct vertical taillights which the crossover has become known for.
Inside the XC60, it carries the familiar cabin design that is dominated by a large tablet-like infotainment screen at the center dash. Beside the usual suite of multimedia features, the system also comes with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay as standard. Fine leather blankets the seats while soft-touch materials envelope the surrounding cabin. It even gets a four-zone automatic climate control with separate controls for the rear occupants.
As mentioned earlier, the XC60 is equipped with the latest technologies that encompass the brand's suite of comfort and safety tech. One of the key features present in the XC60 is Oncoming Lane Mitigation which helps drivers avoid head-on collisions with the help of 'Steer Assist' (which is part of Volvo's City Safety System). Apart from that, the crossover also comes standard with Blind Spot Indication System (BLIS) which works with Steer Assist too.
Finally, there's Pilot Assist which gives the 2018 XC60 semi-autonomous driving assistance. Basically, this will allow the XC60 to drive by itself and takes care of acceleration, braking and steering on well-marked roads up to 130 km/h. It's available as an option for the all-new XC60.
Four engine choices will be available for the 2018 XC60. First up is the D4 2.0-liter turbo-diesel which puts out 190 PS and 400 Nm of torque. Next is the more powerful D5 turbo-diesel which generates 235 PS thanks to PowerPulse. Over to gasoline, we have the T5 and T6. Both displace 2.0-liters with the former benefitting from a turbocharger that delivers 254 PS. The latter, on the other hand, will come with a turbo and supercharger, allowing it to crank out 320 PS and 400 Nm of torque.
Volvo Philippines is now accepting reservations for the 2018 XC60 while the official launch will take place sometime later this year.
