Suzuki Philippines is kicking off 2019 with a bang with the all-new Ertiga MPV.
Now underpinned by the same 'Heartect' platform found in the Swift and Dzire, the 2019 Ertiga is poised to give the Honda Mobilio, Mitsubishi Xpander, as well as the Toyota Avanza a run for their money.
No longer does the Ertiga borrow its face from the Swift hatchback. Instead, the MPV now comes with its own elegant design. Sleek new projector headlights dominate the front fascia, along with a bigger front grill and a sportier-looking front bumper.
Then there are the heavily restyled taillights and tailgate which departs from the previous generation's looks. The former now has an L-shaped design while the latter features a bolder, more angular look. Other changes made to the 2019 Ertiga are a new set of 15-inch alloy wheels, additional creases, and lines on the side, as well as a revised rear bumper.
Also worth mentioning is the 2019 Ertiga's growth spurt. It now measures 4395mm long, 1735mm wide, and 1690mm tall. This makes the new MPV longer by 130mm, wider by 40mm and 5mm taller. Wheelbase, on the other hand, remains at 2740mm. Thanks to its bigger dimensions, Suzuki claims the 2019 Ertiga offers more legroom and headroom for all its occupants.
Open the doors and you are greeted by a more sophisticated-looking cabin. High-end models will come with heaps of faux wood trim, along with the familiar beige interior theme. Like the Swift, the new Ertiga now comes with a flat-bottomed multi-function steering wheel, updated instrument panel, as well as updated aircon vents and air-conditioning control panel.
The top-of-the-line Ertiga comes standard with a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system that supports AM/FM radio, Bluetooth, USB, Aux, navigation, and smartphone mirror link. Mid-range models, on the other hand, come with a smaller 8-inch touchscreen display. Meanwhile, the entry-level variant only comes with a 1-DIN sound system.
With the third-row seats deployed, the Ertiga is capable of carrying 153 liters worth of cargo. Fold down the 50:50 split seats, however, and you have 550 liters worth of cargo carrying capacity. If you need to haul longer loads, the second-row seats can be folded as well to provide 803 liters worth of luggage space.
Gone is the 1.4-liter K14B under the hood. Replacing it is a new 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine dubbed the 'K15B'. It produces 103 PS at 6000 rpm along with 138 Nm of torque at 4400 rpm. Like its predecessor, the new Ertiga is available with either a five-speed manual gearbox or a four-speed automatic transmission.
In terms of safety features, the all-new Ertiga comes with the following across the range: anti-lock brakes with electronic brakeforce distribution and brake assist, dual front airbags, ISOFIX anchors for child seats, side impact door beams and an immobilizer. Other available extras on the 2019 Ertiga include: reverse camera and rear parking sensors.
Available colors for the 2019 Ertiga are: Metallic Magma Gray, Metallic Silky Silver, Pearl Burgundy Red, Pearl Glorious Brown, Pearl Radiant Red, Pearl Snow White, and Prime Cool Black.
