Remember when Hyundai revealed the next-generation Tucson earlier this year? Now on its fifth generation, the compact crossover SUV gets a boxy makeover, as well as a slight growth spurt. With its geometric silhouette, more rugged exterior, and boxy redesign, the all-new Tucson looks more dynamic than ever thanks to the “Art of Steel” design language.

At the time of its reveal, Hyundai did not reveal its powertrain specifications…until now. For the latest Hyundai Tucson, the automaker has decided to give the latest compact crossover an upgraded turbocharged inline-four and a turbo-hybrid powertrain. That’s right, there are no longer any naturally aspirated versions, as well as turbo-diesel models.

Starting with the turbocharged engine, it’s a 1.6L four-cylinder mild-hybrid that now makes 193 PS, which is 13 PS more than before. In addition, the 6-speed automatic transmission is no more, as it gets a new 8-speed automatic gearbox. A manual transmission was not mentioned by Hyundai for the all-new Tucson.

Over to the 1.6L turbo-hybrid, the electrified Tucson now makes 245 PS, which is an additional 10 PS over the current version. Like the turbocharged model, the turbo-hybrid Tucson now also comes with the new 8-speed automatic transmission. A plug-in hybrid (PHEV) version may also be offered soon, but so far, Hyundai has not officially stated if there will be a plug-in option.

Besides revealing the powertrain options, Hyundai also revealed the rugged-looking Tucson XRT. While it’s not exactly geared to take on the roughest of terrains, the all-new Tucson XRT does look more intimidating with its unique front grille, distinct black alloy wheels, a front skid plate, and wheel arch trims that give it a more purposeful look.

With the all-new Hyundai Tucson expected to debut in global markets soon, we’re wondering when Hyundai Motor Philippines Inc. (HMPH) will bring the latest compact crossover. After all, Kia already brought the all-new Sportage in turbo-hybrid form.
