The Volkswagen Philippines booth at the 2017 Manila International Auto Show will certainly be exciting as they will be launching and displaying several new models, including the new generation Tiguan.
The all-new Volkswagen Tiguan is a 5-seat compact crossover SUV. The MIAS-bound model is the second generation of the nameplate; the original was revealed in 2007 and was launched in the Philippines in 2013 when the domestic operations of the Volkswagen brand was undertaken by the Ayala group. The second generation Tiguan was initially revealed at the Frankfurt auto show last year.
The Tiguan is longer and wider than the first generation model, and features the new styling paradigm of the VW brand. The Tiguan compact crossover bound for the Philippine market is the short wheelbase version (SWB); select markets have long wheelbase variants (LWB).
VW Philippines is launching the Comfortline variant of the Tiguan, and will come with a turbocharged 1.4-liter TSI motor with BlueMotion technology. Power output is quoted at 150 PS while torque output is quoted at 250 Nm. The Tiguan's powerplant is Euro-6 compliant, and is matched with a 6-speed DSG dual clutch automatic transmission. The powertrain also has a regenerative braking system and automatic start stop for increased fuel economy.
Standard features on the Tiguan include a 6.5” color touchscreen multi-media head unit, App-Connect, 8 speakers, Bluetooth, a USB port, an Aux-in port, an electronic parking brake with auto hold, and an automatic 3-zone climate control. For safety, the Tiguan gets seven airbags, anti-lock brakes (ABS), anti-slip regulation (ASR), electronic differential lock (EDL), an electronic stability program (ESP) and more.
The all-new Tiguan will be joined by the VW Crafter 9-seater van (including an accessorized version with captain's seats and a large LED TV) which is also making its debut, as well as many other special versions of VW's current lineup an accessorized Touran MPV and a kitted out Golf GTI. Volkswagen Philippines will also debut the Philippine-only Club Editions of the Polo (sedan and hatchback) alongside the Beetle Club Edition.
